Dear members,
The sun has emerged and the cherry blossoms have bloomed. It is time to come out of our winter shelters and enjoy the spring sunshine. Next weekend the APSS is holding the 2010 APSS Asian Cup (Inter-society soccer day).
If you would like to take part, please email us at apss@anu.edu.au. You can either play for your club (so far we have the Korean Studies Society, Australia-China Youth Association, Singaporean Students Association, and College Students Society confirmed taking part) or you can join in the APSS multi-nationality team (I like to think of us as a kind of ASEAN or U.N…). We are playing 7 per side – so get in quick! The plan is to have two games per team over a few hours on next Saturday 18 September at Willows Oval. You don’thave to be a soccer genius or particularly fit, just able to kick a ball and have some fun.
Please see below for details (exact times are indicative only and may change):
Date: Saturday 18th September
Location: Willows Oval (the big one next to the Gym) for 3 hours, from 10:30am – 1:30pm on Saturday 18th September. This means we can have a BBQ to cook the rice 🙂
Arrive: 10:30 onwards
Eat, drink and be merry: 1pm onwards
Food etc: As mentioned earlier we will provide fried rice to eat from 1pm, and players can purchase soft drinks or bottled water at cost price.
Teams: 7 per team, bring substitutes if you can. We will need some referees, so please have one person from your team who can referee another game.
Cost: $2 per person will cover oval hire and fried rice. Drinks sold cheaply (50 cents – $1)
Clothes: Please wear clothes suitable for playing sport. You do not need soccer/football boots, and we will be playing on synthetic grass.
Handicap: We want to encourage both guys and girls to take part, but we understand this is not possible for every club. So for every girl you have on your team, up to 2, you get an extra goal at the beginning of each match.
Based on points (3 – win, 1 – draw, 0 – loss) and goal difference, we will declare an “Asian (Pacific) Cup Winner”* at the end of the day. If the points, goal difference and number of goals for is the same for two or more teams, we will decide bya short penalty shoot-out.
Looking forward to seeing you! Please let me know of any questions you may have.
