Welcome to CAPSS 2013!

To all of our members,

Welcome to 2013!

Congratulations to the Pip Clark’s 2012 executive committee on a most successful year.  Events were well attended and three wonderful issues of Monsoon were published.  However, the 2013 executive committee fully intend to better your accomplishments. (oooh snap.)

We have plans for 2013 that are so big, big things will look smaller by comparison.  Continuing the success that was the Year In Asia Information Night, we’ll be ensuring you are informed about application processes and scholarships as you go into or begin to think about your Year in Asia.

Spicing up staple events, a fantastic new take on the annual Lunar Ball is coming up, as are more collaboration with other Asia clubs and societies.  But shhh!  The plans are still secret. 😉

Website resources are also getting a reboot with plans to beef up the resources section of our website.  We plan to be the go-to place for your questions or problems with courses, language learning and degree structures as well as the Year in Asia.  For that, we also need YOU to contribute!  Are there any websites you found useful for language learning or answering tricky cultural questions?  Email us at capss@anu.edu.au and tell us what sort of things you’d like to see included.

We are also planning to offer brand new CAPSS T-shirts and other fun stuff!  (All sporting our new sexy logo of course.)  So look out for our committee members modeling the new exclusive merchandise at the 2013 Market Day stall!

We’re your society and we want your input.  Get involved and contact us by email or liking the CAPSS facebook page!

Beloved members, best of luck for 2013!

Asia Cup Soccer Tournament

Friends, Romans, APSS members, lend me your ears! (or FEET!)

As last year’s Asia Cup Soccer competition was such a success, we have decided to host the event again. We are inviting all Asia affiliated clubs or societies to put forward a team! But everyone has to get in quick because only 8 teams can be accepted.

Date: Saturday 21th May 2011

Time: 12.00 – 2.30 AM

Venue: Fellows oval, ANU Campus

If there are enough keen players who aren’t in other teams, the APSS will also compete for this PRESTIGIOUS recognition as ANU Asia Cup CHAMPIONS.

We will be providing lunch for all members and players, cooking up our signature fried rice BBQ!! Is your mouth watering already?

RULES:
We will be playing 1/2 size fields, and each team will have a minimum of 7 players. That means six players on field, and one player who will act as a referee for 1/2 the match. Substitutes are, of course, permitted.

There will be no offside rule, and as we are playing 1/2 sized fields, there can be no goaly.

See you all there!!!

http://asiapacific.anu.edu.au/__data/assets/thumbnail/0013/4243/china_fisherman.jpg

The College of Asia and the Pacific is currently reviewing its undergraduate majors as part of a university-wide process aimed at introducing greater consistency and flexibility into undergraduate degrees. To assist in this process, the College is inviting undergraduates studying Asia-Pacific Studies to an open meeting at which the draft majors will be presented for discussion and comment.

Date: Friday 2oth May 2011

Time: 9.30 – 12.30 AM

Venue: Coombs Extension Room 1.04 (Building opposite Coombs theatre)

Questions to be addressed will include:

  • Is the proposed mix of majors appropriate? Is there interest in additional majors? Are the proposed majors viable? Could some majors be combined?
  • Are the courses proposed for inclusion in majors appropriate? Are there courses in other Colleges that should be included in majors?
  • Are the rules within majors appropriate?
