Dear Members
Firstly, congratulations to all the new executive members for next year!
We have a couple of people continuing over from this year’s exec, and a lot of new and enthusiastic people. It looks like the APSS has a great year ahead of it. In particular I would like to congratulate and welcome Brendan Forde, who will be president of the society in 2011. Also, a big thank you to the 2010 executive, in particular president Robert Bin Yang, for an amazing year. I know I enjoyed working with everyone, and I look forward to seeing those of us next year who haven’t managed to escape Canberra…
With no further ado, the APSS executive of 2011 will consist of:
President: Brendan Forde
Secretary: Kareem Moustafa
Treasurer: Philippa Clark
Monsoon Editors: Adhra AlMansoori and Terry Roberts
Social Offier: Gillian Langford
Liaison Officer: Isaac Xie
I.T. Officer: Amar Shah
Media & Design: Sonia Lok
Careers Officer: Rebecca Perkins
Gen Rep: Saad Chowdhery
Sponsorship Officer: Hasan Tariq
Bad luck to those who were unable to secure a position – we still need a few first year reps and one more general rep, who will all be elected sometime in the first few weeks of first semester 2011 so if you’re interested please put your hand up!
The 11 constitutional amendments also passed (subject to final approval by ANUSA) by the following margins:
Proposal 1 – 62%
Proposal 2 – 100%
Proposal 3 – 90%
Proposal 4 – 90%
Proposal 5 – 71%
Proposal 6 – 81%
Proposal 7 – 81%
Proposal 8 – 90%
Proposal 9 – 90%
Proposal 10 – 95%
Proposal 11 – 86%
In recognition of the spirited opposition to some parts of Proposal 1, in particular the merger of the secretary and VP position, it may be wise to reconsider this at the next meeting in first semester with a view to reinstating the VP position if there is sufficient support to do so. I have attached all the passed amendments to this email for reference.
The Constitution on the APSS website will be updated shorty (please be patient as I have exams too…).
Best Regards,
Kareem Moustafa
Secretary, APSS 2010
