Here is some information of scholarships that we thought you might be interested in:

Ethel Tory Language Scholarships:

There are brand new Overseas Study for Language Support Scholarships (Ethel Tory Language Scholarships) available from Second Semester. The deadline is *26 June!!!!* These cover up to $2500 for travel and there are a lot of them (over twenty at least).

PM 2020 Summit Asia Scholarships for Study Abroad:

On 22 April 2009 the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Kevin Rudd MP, announced a new scholarship program, the Prime Minister’s Australia Asia Endeavour Awards, as part of the Government’s response to the 2020 Summit.

Semi-Annual Student-Faculty Forum

Date: Friday, 15th May 2009
Time: 3pm – 5pm
Venue: BPB Staff Common Room (4th floor)
Theme: “Language Focus” – language skills, graduate/employment opportunities and issues related to your Asia-Pacific Studies.
Cost: Free and open for everyone

Are you satisfied with your current language level and course? Do you have any suggests or questions regarding your degree? Where is your degree leading you? How much do you know about graduate/employment opportunities?

Director of the Faculty Professor Kent Anderson, administration and academic staff members will be there to discuss all these issues with you! Come and find more about your degree and your faculty!

This will also be a good opportunity for you to meet your ANUSA faculty representatives (student reps) and executives of APSS. Hope to see you there!

Cambodian Internship Opportunity

Erin Leggat is a recent Asian Studies graduate and ex-member of the APSS. She is currently working in Phnom Penh as the Development Coordinator for the Pari Project, an organisation that strives to aid Cambodian NGOs develop their capacity to aid Cambodians in need by helping them to improve theiraccountability, transparency, efficiency and funding resources. TRIVIA NIGHT!

Date: 31st March 2009

Time: 6:00pm – 8:00pm (You can stay behind and have more drink if you wish)

Venue: PJ O’Reilly’s

Cost: $8 (Members) $10 (non-members/include membership fee)

Please RSVP to apss@anu.edu.au BEFORE 27th MARCH, FRIDAY.

If you would like to have your own team for the evening, please have 7 members max. For those who RSVP 7 people (one complete team), you will receive 1 ticket for free! If you have less than 7/or by yourself, we will join you/teams together on the night for you.

This will be a great opportunity to meet new people and gain some trivial knowledge on Asia & Pacific!

On the night we will provide you Asian finger food and give away lots of prizes; books, beer & lollies!

Asian finger food consists of:

Steamed mini & large Dim Sims

Spring rolls

Vegetarian Samosas

Baked Thai fish cakes

Fish skewers

Flamed grilled satay chicken meatballs

Served with a plum dipping sauce~!

We will organise stalls through out the week (located at BPB 1st floor entrance) for you to pay and pick up the ticket. Or you can simply RSVP and pay at the door on the night.

Asia Pacific Forum – GFC: Its Impact on the Asia-Pacific Region

On Monday, 16th March (Week 4), 7:15pm for 7:30pm start, at Bruce Hall Dinning Room (Building 40, Daley Rd) the APSS and the Asia Pacific Learning Community with be holding a FREE (Open to all members of the ANU community) forum on the Global Financial Crisis and its Impact on the Asia-Pacific. Guest speakers will include Dr. Richard Rigby (Executive Director, ANU China Institute), Mr. Gregore Lopez (PhD Candidate, CrawfordSchool) and 2 more speakers to be confirmed

Invited guests will speak for 10min each and then the panel opens for discussion. Cheese, biscuits, deserts and fruit platters will be provided, along with water, juice and wine.

Please try to RSVP to asiapacific.lc@anu.edu.au by Thursday 12th March for catering reasons, but you are more than welcome to turn up on the night without RSVP with your friends!
